Ingredients
  • Lavalia İrem phyllo pastry for baklava
  • 3-4 cups of crushed walnuts
  • 1.5 cups of vegetable oil
  • 200 grams of butter
For the Syrup
  • 4 cups of water
  • 2 cups of sugar
Preparation

First, prepare the syrup. Boil the sugar and water together. After a few minutes of boiling, turn off the heat and set the syrup aside to cool.

Grease a baking tray. Place the first layer of phyllo pastry in the tray. Sprinkle walnuts on top. Lay the second sheet over it and drizzle with vegetable oil. Add the third sheet, sprinkle walnuts, then the fourth and drizzle oil again.

Continue this layering process—alternating walnuts and oil—until all sheets are used. Do not add anything on top of the final layer. Then, cut the baklava into desired pieces.

Melt the butter in a separate pan. Once the initial heat has passed (but before it cools), pour it over the sliced baklava. Bake in a preheated oven at 180–200°C until golden brown.

Once out of the oven and slightly cooled, pour the cold syrup over the baklava.

After the baklava absorbs the syrup and rests well, it is ready to be served.
